Joe Finn In Concert (no label no #) 1978
Touted as “New Jersey’s foremost balladeer and Irish folk singer”, Joe Finn performs here with just his guitar and voice before an audience at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. Spiritual material like ‘Day By Day’, ‘Alleluia’ and ‘Amazing Grace’ is done alongside covers such as ‘I Believe’, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ‘1 Am I Said’ and ‘The Impossible Dream’. ‘My Way’ is presented with a Christianized ending, causing the audience to erupt in cheers. Not bad, though I’d liked to have seen a less melodramatic selection of songs, and more of the purer folk variety like ‘Four Green Fields’ or the riveting anti-war ‘The Band Played Waltzing Matilda’ where Finn’s Irish accent flowers. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Ken for the front cover photo and Discogs for the label and rear cover photo and track list.
