Peace In The Valley (no label NM-7361) 1973?

The Gospel Press is a 70-some member group from First Presbyterian Church in Yakima, Washington. Normally I don’t even pick up these gag-me-with-a-spoon youth choir things, but it got slipped in a package I received, whereupon listening I was able to unearth a couple gems. Those would be the two cuts by a small rock band called Damascus Road. One is a cover of Larry Norman’s ‘I Searched All Around’, the other a brisk-tempo electrically charged number called ‘Don’t You Know’ with exciting fuzz guitar action, I drool at the prospects of a full-length album by these guys. The remaining songs by Gospel Press, Proud Faith (female folk), and Reflection (folk, contempo-now-sound) don’t exactly set the earth on fire. Think of it as an excellent 7” single packaged with a bunch of filler. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

Bit of trivia: the song ‘Peace in the Valley’ was written by Thomas A. Dorsey for Mahalia Jackson in 1939.  For those who don’t know who Tommy Dorsey was he was a Big Band leader in the 1930’s and 40’s. Before my time too, but my parents were familiar with him.   diakoneo

I have not acquired this album yet.  Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
