Given Time (RCS 740517) 1974
Oregon’s Given Time has the welcome feel of homemade vintage Jesus music, where rock, folk and country all come together in that unique blend. It’s the kind of sound you’re liable to find on those early Maranatha samplers. Mostly female lead vocals, though the guys step in a couple times. Electric guitar is present, bringing a satisfying garage angle to the bluesy opener ‘Jesus Fills The Hole’ or wah-wah-ing away on ‘Empty Rooms’. ‘Freedom’ strums along briskly with acoustic guitar while bongo percussion contributes a nice edge. A few tracks add piano, like their rendition of Country Faith’s ‘Come Quickly Jesus’. Also a cover of Children Of The Day’s ‘Where Went The Days’. Closes on a praise note with ‘Father, I Adore You’. Same Portland custom label as the first Shalom album. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Discogs for the label and rear cover photos and track list. Thank you Ken for the front cover photo.
