The Mustard Seed (FEL 672) 1977
The Mustard Seed (subtitled Eleven Songs Of Joy and Hope) tightened the sound further, adding some fitting piano, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica. Songs of “joy, simplicity and spontaneity” the back cover says – words that accurately describe such upbeat jangly tunes as the title track, ‘Reaching Out’, ‘Simple Song Of Freedom’ and the banjo backed ‘Doing The Truth In Love’. ‘How Many Times’ is one of the album’s highlights, a moody song that gracefully flows along with skillful mandolin accompaniment and lead acoustic guitar. Some nice slower moods as well, including ‘Spirit Of God’ and the piano/flute-backed ‘Do You Believe’. By this time the backup vocal ensemble Leaven was an all-female group of nine (that is if you go by the back cover photo). See also Sing Out! Arise! Rejoice! (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you George for the front and rear cover photos and Donald for the track list.
