Grace (GMI GMI 1003) 1978 Holland *
It’s the Salvation Army again with another one of their ministry bands, this one a seven-member out-fit from the Netherlands. Pop-rock, jazz and disco is the course du jour, peppered with horns and electric guitar, like a weaker Dutch version of Sweet Comfort Band. ‘Let His Light Shine Through’ has a hint of Saturday Night Fever, plus a notable guitar riff in the middle. ‘Happy Man’ is the most danceable track, grooving along to a solid ‘70s beat ala MFSB for six-and-a-half minutes. Not sure what Fanny Crosby would think of their saxophone-swinging rendition of ‘Blessed Assurance’. Also some MOR ballads. Two songs in Dutch, the other eight in English. That letter “S” displayed on the sides of each member’s collar is pretty cool. Gate-fold cover. GMI label (Gospel Music International). (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Discogs for the album photos and track list.
