Footprints In The Sand (Silver Star SS-1-1001) 1980
Edgel Groves’ record shifts back and forth from truck-driving country rock to spoken-word rural ballads, coming across somewhere between Johnny Cash and C. W. McCall (I’m certain the dude could have done a formidable version of ‘Convoy’). Lushly arranged with moody synthesizer and female backing vocals, never super twangy or anything, with some crossover into light rock territory on ‘I Am The Light’ and ‘True Love Coming Down’, both catchy melodic songs. The title track got some airplay on country stations. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Ken for the front cover photo and Discgos for the rear cover photo and track list.
