Hand Made (One Way OW 7610L) 1976?
Ken Helser’s name has appeared on a few North Carolina projects, including The New Directions, The Bridge and the excellent Jubilant Feet! by Tamarah. This album doesn’t sound anything like those homemade productions. Hand Made consists of gospel-flavored pop, MOR, ballads and rock, Ken’s big soulful voice heavily blanketed with strings, horns and female backing vocals. A lot of fairly traditional material in a Nashville and Gary S. Paxton direction, but also gets significantly charged up for the heavily funked ‘God Didn’t Say It’d Be Easy’ and ‘l’m So Glad’, as well as the boogie rocker ‘How Long Will It Take’. Two cover variations exist. Also called Hand Made At God’s Farm. Produced by Alan Moore. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Ken for the front cover photo. Thank you Discogs for the label and rear cover photos and the track list.
