On The Wings Of A Dove (Hammard HAM 159) 1987 Australia *

The Proclaimers from Australia who backed Franciscus Henri on a couple of his albums seem to be a much larger group from the photos on a couple of their own albums. They released several LP’s, an EP and 3 singles. In 1966 minister Stan Stewart of the Rosanna Baptist Church in Melbourne took part in a pulpit exchange that saw him placed in an African American Baptist congregation in Missouri, USA. He was so taken with the music he found, that he brought a couple of black gospel albums back with him. The youth choir of the church fell in love with the recordings and were inspired to start their own group. They made their public debut in September 1966 at a Baptist Youth Fellowship rally and by July 1967 they had taken the name The Proclaimers and were beginning to perform interstate. They did 700 live performances across a forty year career that ended in 2006. I copied this from: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/archived/rarecollections/the-gospel-of-melbourne%E2%80%99s-proclaimers/6555424 there is much more to read there.      diakoneo
