IHS (Baldwin Sound CS 7840) 1973
Custom studio production featuring the music of three different guy/gal outfits. Unfortunately I can’t tell from the cover or label which group does what song, but I’m guessing the folk group is Ichthys, the contemporary gospel group is Common Bond, and the flaming contemporary gospel group is The Congregation. Some okay straightforward folk tracks like ‘Come Sing’, ‘0 Bless The Lord’, ‘Welcome Home Children’ and ‘Jesus Is The Answer’ featuring joyful harmonies over-top acoustic guitars, electric bass and drums. The remaining songs tend to emphasize piano and the pop/contemporary gospel format, the best of the lot being the piano/flute-backed ‘Over In Bethlehem’ and a cover of Children Of The Day’s ‘The Search’. Ichthys and Common Bond both have seven members each, while The Congregation numbers eighteen. Ichthys also has a full-length 1p (see entry), while Common Bond has at least two. From Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and track list.
