Koinonia (Koinonia KM-102) 1978
Well-produced Torrance, California custom lp featuring five artists with two songs each, making for a similar concept to the Gospel Ship lps. Freewind delivers a fluid jazz-edged rock groove on ‘The Lord Is Always Near’. That track plus the softer ballad ‘Freewind’ both feature decent electric guitar leads. Crossroads contributes the gentle acoustic ‘Sail On’ and the playful electric ‘Music’, with Pedro Buford of Mustard Seed Faith adding flourishes of flute, piano and synthesizer. Sweet Deliverance’s ‘I Never Knew’ follows an easygoing soft rock style, while ‘Sweet Deliverance’ frames dreamy phased electric moods around a heavier rock midsection with fuzz and volume pedal leads. Lily Fraser provides two piano ballads (‘Morning Light’ and a cover of ‘You Are So Beautiful’), while Joanne Gilbreath sings a pair of orchestrated Seth-like MOR tracks (‘Was He Ever Lonely’ and ‘The Wind And The Spirit’, both Sue Raney songs). Cover has a color photograph of a butterfly. Also comes with a cool die-cut holographic butterfly with “Koinonia” printed on it. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and track list.
