Christ Is… (Destiny LL-100) 1973

The five-man band The Last Chance sound like they could be the missing link between Listen and Azitis. They’ve got the stripped-down acoustic rock feel of the former, as well as some of the psychy organ vibe of the latter. That of course makes for one heckuva cool record in the home-made “acoustic rock/psych” category. No electric guitars from what I can tell, but the bass and drums are in there solid, working up a vigorous beat alongside the acoustic guitars on ‘Something For You’, ‘What Ya Gonna Do’, ‘Listen’, ‘Last Chance’ and ‘Jesus, Jesus’. Other tracks have a slow mysterious lost loner appeal, namely ‘Thoughts Of Love’, ‘Please Tell Me’ and ‘Rapture’, the latter an account from one who was lefi behind at the Rapture. Oflen it’s the organ that really sends these guys over the top, especially on the closing ‘Second Coming’, a first-rate five-minute prog/psych instrumental in four movements. Recorded in Rockford, Illinois.     (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Ken for the front cover photo. Thank you Discogs for the track list.
