Live At Santa Claus (no label no #) 1975?
Talk about a mysterious record – no cover, no label, no song titles, no names, no nothing. Only the group name and title etched in the dead wax. Just who were the Lovers Of Jesus? Highly creative weirdos with a message from what I can tell. The opening song has a strong Jethro Tull vibe while Zappa-esque vocal effects creepily accompany. Another track mixes chanting, yelling and assorted mayhem for a sound that has all the earmarks of a Fugs session gone awry. A few more scattered weird reflects and studio chat here and there, otherwise the rest of the songs are more straightforward in a somewhat rural quasi-west coast sometimes Larry Norman-ish acoustic rock format. An ultra-slick made-for-radio male narrator with a deep soft voice provides spiritual commentary between each tune. Sounds like a studio recording in spite of the album title. Crazy, man. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Discogs for the front cover and label photo.
