Childgrove (Adelphi AD 1022) 1973
Suni McGrath is an acoustic 6 and 12-string guitar player whose skillful style recalls the intricate folk/blues method of John Fahey and Leo Kottke. Childgrove is an instrumental album for the most part, unless you count the 22-minute ‘The Lion Of Judah’ where a female singer periodically murmurs the chorus of “Jesus Christ, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Savior”. The only other instrument is the second guitar provided by Jack Denlinger on two of the tracks. Very beautiful, very relaxing. Most of the selections are denoted by Scripture on the back cover, so I guess you can call it “Christian”. Includes original songs such as ‘Love Abides’, ‘Zoe’ and ‘The Harvest’, as well as interpretations of Gary Davis (‘Lo, I’ll Be With You Always’) and Ray Repp (‘I Am The Resurrection’). This is Suni’s third album (preceded by Cornflower Suite and The Call Of The Mourning Dove). (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.
