Messiah’s Messenger (Eagle E8111) 1981

A handsome independent release of gentle-natured folk/folk-rock from the Minnesota duo of Steve Peterson and Lyndon Bartell. Stirring harmonies are backed by a textured blend of 6 and 12-string guitar, filled in by piano, bass, drums, electric guitar, recorder and synthesizer. Also appearances of pedal steel, mandolin and banjo. As good as if not better than other male twosomes like Ron Case & Phil Butin, Stewart & Kyle, Christian Stephens, etc. Good acoustic guitar leads along with a few hints of Dan Fogelberg can be found scattered throughout the album on songs like ‘God Chose His Only Son’, ‘Standing By’ and ‘Why Don’t Some See It’. Nice slide guitar on the opening ‘Broken Heart’. Features ten original songs in all. Bartell also had a couple fine custom solo lps in the early ‘80s on the same custom label. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
