Move Two Mix (no label, no #) 1968 Australia *

Subtitled Music For The Contemporary Church, this early Australian production has a similar spirit to projects like Crosscurrent Community, The Toronto Mass, Meet God, Man/ and 20th Century’s A Folk Passion. For this record, composer Jim Minchin sought to combine “old words” with new jazz/folk sounds Side one stays mostly inside contemporary jazz realms, with vibes and Minchjn’s piano being the primary instruments. Bass, drums, guitar, organ, flute and trumpet are also in there Vocals are provided by a nine-person male/female ensemble, while a group called The Most Men provides the instrumental backing. Side two introduces the male acoustic folk sounds of The Martindale Four. They perform four songs, including ‘Praise To The Lord The Almighty’, a slick folk-with-a—beat number embellished with spunky ‘60s organ. Also includes three Sydney Carter songs with new melodies: ‘The Crow On The Cradle’, ‘Standing In The Rain’ and ‘Feeling Sad And Lonely?’ (the latter opens with an odd sound collage of TV commercials!) Seventeen songs total, housed in a psychy b&w pen/ink cover, Would have been an appropriate release for the early Avant Garde, Fortress or Reflection labels. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
