The First Twelve Miles (DCM YPXR1081) 1973 Australia *

Custom folk album from Australian singer. David supplies 12-string guitar, harmonica and banjo, while others fill in on piano, organ, bass, drums and additional guitar. David has a smooth rich voice, not traditional necessarily, but more the kind of voice you’d associate with say an adult folk balladeer than a hippie coffeehouse folksinger. Not quite what I expected given David’s long-haired shirtless guitar-wielding appearance on the front cover, but a pleasant listen nonetheless I’d liken him maybe to an edgier Sebastian Temple. Features twelve of David’s songs, ranging from soft dreamy moods (‘There Came A Child’, ‘Listen’) to playful mellow acoustic melodies (‘Faith Comes Round’, ‘One Dream I Had’) to brisk up-tempo numbers (‘Happiness We Knew’, ‘Our Journey’) to protest folk (‘Give Up My Guitar’, the fuzz-equipped ‘For All Men’). (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the track list and the rear cover photo.
