Chippi And His Friends Sing Especially For Children (Windy WMR101) 1974
Poor Chippi the Chipmunk. At least Charlie the Hamster had somewhat of a budget. Chippi clearly had none. No big deal. hr fact that only makes things better. As you might have guessed the principle is the same: sped-up voices in harmony doing children’s Bible songs. Joining Chippi are fellow ‘munks Simon and Shadrack. “These chipmunks love God and try always to be good Christians.” You’ll chime in with a hearty “amen!” as the trio squeaks through piano-backed titles like “The B-I-B-L-E’, ‘I’d Rather Be A Christian’, ‘More About Jesus’, ‘God Created Fish And Birds’ and ‘Thank You Father For The Farmer’. Lots of spoken portions between the songs, mercilessly steeped in cheesy “heh-heh-heh-heh” machine-gun giggles. It ain’t country music like Charlie and his gang, but it’s still dang cool, especially given the corny dialogue and no-fidelity production. Highlight is the brief appearance of The Chipmunk Band, performing their cacophonous blend of bongos, cymbals, harpsichord and piano. I’ll take Chippi over Chipmunk Punk and Urban Chipmunk any day. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thought we’d never finish the CHRISTIAN AEROBICS ALBUMS, but we made it. Thank you Ken for the Chippi front cover.
