Summertime Children (Superior S-10169) 1975
Easy-going farm-bred singer-songwriter with elements of folk, country, rock and gospel. Rural vibes most obvious on talk-sung originals like ‘The Ballad Of John Kline’ (to the tune of ‘Big Bad John’), ‘Cowboy Dan’ or (with a nod to Johnny Cash) ‘The Great Botetourt Bus-Truck Race’, Side two features some diggable electric guitar work alongside piano on tracks like ‘Psalm 23’, “Growing Old’ and the gospel bluesy. ‘Christmas Carol’, all of which have a melodic soft rock songwriting style reminiscent of Todd Rundgren or Carole King. Not a perfect voice but it doesn’t matter. As with a lot of the better Airborn albums, the custom heartland vibes and “ordinary people” feel make Summertime Children a likable effort. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you George for the rear cover photo and Donald for the track list.
