The New Commitment (ACA-6620) 1976

Wow, look at that cover! A wild orange psychedelic butterfly illustration – it’s gonna be a monster! Uh-oh – the back cover: twelve teens looking like Greg and Marsha Brady all with matching outfits. Rats – probably schmaltzy youth crapola. Well I was pleasantly surprised as it turned out because despite the unison singing, the mellow almost-MOR harmonies, and the lack of any guitar solos this Texas custom actually comes off as a fairly charming folk 1p. Nice uncomplicated acoustic six and twelve-string guitar sound plus percussion, bass, and trombone (don’t worry, it fits in just fine) as they perform and in some ways even improve upon mostly songs by The Darneans. See the entry under Roger Smith & The New Commitment for an even better album. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you George for the front and rear cover photo.
