New Canticle (Word Of God W/G 7303) 1973
Some of the members of this band can also be found in The Word Of God and The Lighthouse. Unlike the former’s choral/folk and the latter’s MOR leanings. New Canticle provides the simple small-band folk sounds for this Ann Arbor charismatic community. Basic guitars and piano approach, slow to peppy including stuff like ‘This Train’, ‘Very Last Day’, ‘0 Happy Day’, ‘Pass It On’, but it’s member Charles Christmas’ original songs that are the best. Joan Starks has one of those nice “opera” kind of voices. Real anointed stuff that I’m sure got a lot of hands up in the air. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.
