All Good Gifts (Listen/Praise PRS 338) 1976 Canada
What does Dan Nelson have in common with Bruce Anderson and Scott Warrender? They were all members of the group Joyous Celebration who also released solo albums. Dan can often come across as Mr. Smooth, especially when he chooses material like ‘Medley: Traditional Melodies’, ‘How Great Thou Art’, ‘My Tribute (To God Be The Glory)’ and ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. But he also does am effective job of switching gears for a Southern rocker like ‘Victory Song’. Another cool track is ‘Ps 139’ where heavy synthesizers are coupled to a silky mysterious jazz-rock groove. Also a worthwhile version of the Godspell title song. Most of the remaining titles are mellow orchestrated ballads and MORish light rock. Dan can be found on guitar and bass (plus synths on the aforementioned track), while numerous other musicians assist, including members of Joyous Celebration. (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
