New Wine 2 (Prestige PP75-105) 1975?
New Wine’s second album is definitely their strongest, the one with the most consistent electric folk-rock sound throughout ‘I Just Wanna Praise The Lord’ opens the lp has a nice sunshiny vibe and is trimmed with some interesting percussion effects, while ‘Peace, Love And Joy’ is aided by phased electric guitar accompaniment. Still a couple slower traditional songs, but also some moving ballads like ‘I Will Call’. Interspersed with a few brief spoken testimonies from the band In fact the final track is simply called ‘Closing Comments’: a totally local-yokel-with-tape-recorder thing where one of the members gives some off-the-cuff remarks about the record (“we thought we’d put a little talkin’ on it cuz it’s not on most albums”), signing off with a “Hallelu-yer I’m saved! Amen! All right, that’s a ten-four!” (The Archivist, 4th Edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
