Agape (North Park College SS-16938-01) 1970?
Basic ’60s folk lineup of acoustic guitars, upright bass and banjo for this co-ed collegiate group of seven’s custom lp. Similar to the New Folk as they competently strum and harmonize through spiritual and secular standards like ‘This Land Is Your Land’, ‘The Song Is Love’, ‘Turn, Turn, Turn’, ‘Jet Plane’, ‘Where I’m Bound’, ‘Tramp On The Street’, ‘They’ll know We Are Christians By Our Love’, etc. One of the guys goes solo for ‘Thumbing The Scriptures’, a humorous “talking blues” piece that walks through the history of our various Bible translations. ‘H.A.S.H.’ is an interesting collage of brief melodies and lyrics pieced together from various ’60s hits “(The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel are favored). Vary primitive b&w cover photo and hand-drawn graphics. Students at North Park College ion Chicago. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not found this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
