Sail On Home (New Born NB 7014) 1979? Canada *
New Wine & Roses is the Calgary, Alberta husband/wife team of Perry and Lori Rose. Together with several other musicians they present a folky soft rock and ballads style well suited to the New Bom label. A warm easy kind of sound decorated throughout with keyboards like piano, synthesizer and Arp. Patmos, Pam Mark Hall, Tamarack, and Ernie Rettino/Debbie Kemer are some of the here-and-there impressions I’ve jotted down. Gets a little jazz-funky on ‘No Compromising’, whereas ‘Truckin’ For Jesus’ takes the country-blues route with ripplin’ sax and guitar leads. The whimsical novelty number ‘Little Piece Of Paper’ opens with a routine involving a pair of hillbilly percussionists coming into the studio – shades of ‘Lucas McGraw’? (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.
