First trumpet, flugelhorn, second trumpet, alto horn, trombone — looks like we’ve got another home-rock band here. Although they don’t measure up to the standards of Liberation Suite (the yardstick for all Christian horn rock bands), this eight-member Salvation Army outfit still makes out better than most. Coolest track is ‘Jesus Knows’ with groovin’ organ, scratchy wah—wah guitar and deep fuzz bass. More funky wah-wah action on the upbeat ‘Freedom In Jesus’ which has a quirky stop/start beat. Jazzy swinging covers of the hymns ‘Leanin’ (i.e., ‘Leaning On The Everlasting Arms’) and ‘What A Friend’. Mellotron in a couple spots. Female lead vocals most of the time. Plenty of average so-so songs, but enough goodies to make it interesting. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
