Salt Water Soul (Triumphonic TRLPS 15) 1974?
Low-tech garage pop—rock custom from Salvation Army group with three girls sharing the lead vocals. Mostly forgettable tumbles through pop hits like ‘What The World Needs Now Is Love’, ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head’ and ‘Nowhere Man’, plus some spirituals and Ralph Carmichael songs. Of course these Army groups always have to have a trumpet, and sure enough it’s in here on about half the tracks. The organ, electric bass and drums help sustain an overall primitive garage vibe, plus there’s one very cool basement rocker (‘Sinkin’) that kicks off with a serious explosion of fuzz guitar. A male vocalist takes over for a couple of the songs. Descriptors like “now sound” and “now generation” decorate the back cover notes. Same label as Redemption’s Gone Fishin’. Part of the Boardwalk ministry at Asbury Park, New Jersey. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the front and rear cover photos and the track listing.
