Island (Hamster NR11607) 1980

Apparently Salvation Air Force weren’t the only ones to do the full-length version of Larry Norman’s ‘Deja Vu’ (aka ‘If God Is My Father’). Rick Roberts and friends do a much better version of it on this fine custom lp, even putting in a couple extended guitar solos. Norman is actually honored twice since there’s also a rendition of ‘Why Should The Devil’, complete with rippin’ guitar leads and vocal assistance from “the Snortface Choir”. Elsewhere the moods are either acoustic or soft rock, Rick playing guitar, organ, mandolin and bass, while other musicians fill in on various instruments; Covers of John Prine’s ‘Hello In There’ and Billy Joel’s ‘Begin Again’, plus three of Rick’s own songs. Title tune refers to attempts to live our lives isolated from God. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet.
