Sanctus (Unison ULP-069) 1978? Australia *
Australian foursome (three guys, one girl) doing MOR/light-rock standards with an occasional jazz touch. Singer Bev Shadlow leads the way on smoothed-over renderings of well-worn titles like Godspell’s ‘Oh Bless The Lord’, Andrae Crouch’s ‘Along Came Jesus’ and ‘Confidence’, ‘I Just Came To Praise The Lord’ and ‘He Ain’t Heavy’. Sort of like Sandi Patty heading up Deliverance. Not all that interesting really, particularly those loungy polished vocals, but does have a couple okay stomach-able moments where the jazz-rock angle takes prominence (mainly their funky cover of Judy Romero’s ‘Power’, with respectable organ/guitar interaction). (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
