Second Coming (CER SR-2) 1984
If Conceptual Orchestra was subtle and searching with regard to the lyrics, Second Coming leaves no doubt about where the guys are coming from. The music is heavier for the most part, leaving the ‘70s edge of the debut behind in favor of an ‘80s progressive hard rock direction, with loud ringing guitars and howling echoed vocals. Synth, clavinet and some brass in here as well. Kind of unique sounding; not necessarily what you’d call “catchy”, but it definitely burns some serious rubber in spots. Titles include ‘Dance Together’, ‘He’s Always There’, ‘The Gospel’, ‘Hold On’, ‘It’s Getting Closer’, ‘Take Jesus’, ‘Second Coming’ and the 7-minute ‘The Antichrist’. Bizarre b&w drawings on the front side of the gate-fold cover, opening out into a picture of the shroud of Turin that’s surrounded by numerous Bible verses. Followed by three independent CD releases. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Brian for the song list.
