Selah (Pinebrook PB 1099) 1975?
Seems like there have been several occasions where I’ve bumped into someone who fondly remembers this male group, especially their live performances. Have to admit on record I was initially less than impressed as the arrangements tend to push their more or less Jesus rock sound more toward easy listening, MOR and com, especially the ballads. Their self-titled debut is definitely the smoother and mellower of their two albums, with covers of Andrae Crouch (‘I’m Gonna Keep On Singin’, ‘The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power’) and a medley that includes ‘In The Sweet By And By’ and ‘Oh Happy Day’. Of slightly greater interest are the original songs written by keyboardist Steve Millikan, a man whose name can be found on many a Pinebrook release. Nothing really rocks, though – for that you’ll need to check out their follow-up With Clouds. Based out of Kokomo, Indiana. Gate-fold cover. Also released on the Singcord label. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.
