Sisters Of The Holy Names - To Love Is To Listen

Six young nuns led by singer/songwriter Barbara Pires. A simple quaint harmonized folk sound probably inspired by the first couple Medical Mission Sisters records. Very austere arrangements, though I did notice an electric guitar sneaking into the mix on three tracks. “Any attempts to alter these original and lovely lyrics and lilting melodies instrumentally or with professional studio voices was out of the question”. Barbara’s song ‘An Irish Blessing’ (included here also) made it onto Frank Dumin’s Another Dawn album on Avant Garde. Barbara also has a lovely solo folk lp titled Do You Know Who You Are? (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
