Judee Sill (Asylum SD 5050) 1971
Spacey hippie chick who apparently thought Jesus and God were cool, scoring a couple of winners here with these classy big-label orchestrated folk offerings. Sometimes spiritually vague or lyrically ethereal with references to Astral planes, cryptospheres (7), and songs like ‘Enchanted Sky Machines’, ‘Lopin’ Along Through The Cosmos’ and ‘Abracadabra’. Titles like ‘Jesus Was A Crossmaker’, ‘The Lamb Ran Away With The Crown’, ‘When The Bridegroom Comes’ and ‘My Man On Love’ (which made it onto Parchment’s Shamblejam) often cause her records to be included among Christian collectors. Both albums have a nice artsy carefree lilt, touching melodies caressed with moving arrangements. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the inside gate-fold and rear cover photos.
