Bible Songs (Word K-737) 1976

I can almost picture how it must have happened. Floyd Robinson is lying awake in his bed late at night, when suddenly he sits up saying “Aha! I haven’t done insects yet!” And thus is born Ricky The Cricket. Ricky’s voice is similar to Floyd’s Lil’ Ole Granny and Benny The Beep, sung in a high falsetto but not electronically raised as with Charlie The Hamster. Ricky’s distinctive quality is that he continually stutters his sounds (“c-c-c-come to Jesus while you can”, “Jesus is the k-kk—king”), interjecting little “k-k-k-ket” phrases all over the place. Same simple cornball country melodies as with all the other Floyd albums, each song having this low-register splat-like sound for percussion (which I assume is supposed to be a cricket chirp, but sounds more like a croaking frog). Among Ricky’s twelve gems are ‘Ricky Cricket’, ‘Stairway To Heaven’, ‘Marching For Jesus’, ‘If The Bible Says It’s So, It’s So’ and ‘I’m One Of God’s Kids’. Hey, who am I to argue with a cricket? (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).

I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for pointing me to the track listing.
