Sing Along With Patch The Pirate (Musical Ministries MM018) 1981
While not nearly as crowded as the Christian Dummies department, there do appear to be at least two entries for Christian Pirates. Unlike Captain Hook, however, who lost an arm and gained a hook for a hand, Patch The Pirate (real life: Ron Hamilton) lost an eye and now wears an eye patch. And as far. as what you hear on the vinyl, the two are different as night and day, though both certainly qualify for “incredibly strange” status. Hamilton’s deep crooning traditional voice is joined here by Wally Whale (actually Patch’s already deep vocals electronically lowered a few more notches), the trio of Ozzie, Oozie and Omery Oyster (essentially Alvin and the Chipmunks), and a host of other seaside friends. Together they stroll through titles like ‘When Jesus Had A Birthday’, ‘Responsibility’, ‘1 Love America’, ‘Grumblers’, ‘His Name Is At The Top’ and ‘Obedience’. Nowhere near the connection you get from Little Marcy or Charlie The Hamster, but definitely another bizarre concept in the ever-so-weird genre of Christian children’s music. Numerous other albums followed and I believe he’s still at it today. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
Patch the Pirate can be found online at Patch The Pirate and at Majesty Music where you can purchase this and other CD’s by Patch and Ron Hamilton. Or you can do a Google or you favorite search engine as I also saw some available also at Amazon.com, so there may be other sights that sell them as well. diakoneo
