Whistling In Heaven (Gm Low GR 7100) 1966?
Looks like Ralph Platt has got some serious competition here. Blind whistler Fred Lowery is a virtual bird at the microphone. And when he gets that two-tone warble going you’d swear you were tuning into some bizarre ‘50s experimental electronic instrument. Fred has a number of albums — this one stood out to me with its b&w cartoon cover of singing birds wearing Wizard’s hats. All tracks are hymns backed by solemn organ, a few with traditional vocal accompaniment. “Thrill to the trill of Fred Lowery the Whistling Wizard!” (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
Fred’s other albums include: Abide With Me (Word – WST-8456-LP) 1968; Fred Lowery Whistles Your Gospel Favorites (Word – WST-8326) 1967; Precious Memories (Word – WST-8516-LP) 1971; A Family Christmas, (Gra Low GR-7101) 1967?; It is Well with My Soul (Word WST-8563) 1972. I was not able to locate the cover listed by Ken Scott in the Archivist. diakoneo
