Someone To Believe In (Candid 753 42963) 1975?
Wisconsin’s Smilin’ Praises does a super job echoing the spirit of Phoenix Sonshine’s classic Shinin ’ In The Light on this excellent custom rarity. Four people in the group (three guys, one girl), trading off between jangly country folk-rock (title cut, ‘Ha-Ha’ with mandolin, the plugged-in ‘Take My Hand’) and moody “progressive” acoustic—rock expressions (‘Burnt Toast’ at seven minutes, ‘Miners’ Lament’, ‘Still Waters’, the dreamy flute—accompanied ‘Inside You’). Good outstretched acoustic guitar workouts on the longer tracks. Also some similarities to obscure groups like Kindred Spirits and Branches. Nice home-made white-on—aqua cartoon cover art. Members of Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you George for the front and rear cover photos.
