Faith, Folk And Nativity (Pilgrim JLP 168) 1970 UK *
Methodist minister Peter Smith teamed up with fellow British folksters Arthur and Judi Johnson for this appealing collection of folk carols. A seasoned professional feel with gay spirited harmonies over-top a snappy beat via the combo of guitar, flute, bass, drums and percussion. Similar in spirit to Reflection’s Nativity, presenting a fresh contemporary twist to Sydney Carter, traditional English tunes, a few originals, and numerous obscure titles. Sixteen songs in all of which I only recognized a handful (‘Every Star Shall Sing A Carol’, ‘Mary’s Child’ and ‘Simple Gifts’). (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the both cover photos.
