Sonrise (RCS 74011) 1974
After sifting away all the hymns and contemporary gospel numbers from this four-guy one-girl Oregon custom, one finds three self-written folk-rock tracks that actually aren’t half bad. ‘He’s Always There’ and ‘Lonely Road’ both benefit from electric guitar solos, while ‘New Sun A’Risin’ gets a boost from the organ accompaniment. Wish the whole lp could have been like that, but unfortunately the remaining songs sound like a totally different band doing smooth piano-backed covers of Bill Gaither, Jimmy Owens, Andrae Crouch and the like. A couple guys from the group Shalom are in here helping out on banjo, drums and production. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo.
