Sonrise (Hand In Hand HHSO 1000) 1978

Sonrise (Hand In Hand)

Arizona five-guy three-girl outfit with an appealing melodic rock/folk-rock style. They’re mostly hanging around in middle-ground rock territory with acoustic and electric guitars, piano and rhythm section, although things manage to get slightly rowdier for the rocker ‘Holy Man’. Bluesy harmonica comes to the spotlight for the slow— rocking ‘Bygone Blues’. Some nice bustling wah—wah rhythm guitar enlivening ‘Dayspring’, while ‘Look Away’ interjects a bit of jazz—rock jamming. Shifts into dreamy mystery-laced acoustic realms for ‘Sunrise Sunday Morning’ and the synth-backed ‘Thy Love’. Nine of the ten songs were written by member Bernie Rolfe who contributes guitars, synthesizers and piano. Bernie as well as some of the other members were also involved with the earlier Arizona folk-rock group The New Beginning who have two excellent rare custom lps. Bernie also released a solo lp in the early ‘80s. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
