Wake Up, My People! (Mark MC-5625) 1973?
This hippie male/female acoustic set comes across a lot more sophisticated that your usual group running through the same folk standards. Wake Up, My People! presents familiar songs by artists like Tom Paxton, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and especially Ray Repp (three songs), presenting them with simple arrangements of acoustic guitar and bass, with occasional embellishment from recorder, flute or saxophone. Includes a botched start on ‘I Am The Resurrection’ (listed in the credits as ‘I Am The Resurrection Mistake’). Also a couple original songs: a beautiful flute/guitar ‘Instrumental’ and the downer-ish ‘Scott’s Cloud’ (backed solely by intricate electric bass), Excellent guitar work on ‘A Soalin’, another instrumental. Cover shows b&w negative images of the five members (long hair for some of the guys). Custom record, produced as an “educational experience” at the State University of New York at Buffalo. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Ebay for the front cover photo.
