Sing In God’s Name (Mill Valley MVR-101) 1977
Eleven-person folk group with a fondness for songs by the Medical Mission Sisters and a wholesome mix of acoustic guitars, flute, electric bass and percussion. The Catholic folk sound basically, even though it happens to be Methodists in this case, Only one guy in the group, but he doesn’t sing, so they all end up sounding like a trimmed—down version of the Medical ones, which is by no means a bad thing (actually there’s a young boy in there too, but I can’t hear him). Six MMS covers in all, including ‘God Speaks’, ‘Hear My Call’ and ‘Howl My Soul’, plus Ray Repp’s ‘I Can See It From My Window’ and John Fischer’s ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. Also a couple attractive original songs. A home-made deal from Mill Valley, California, housed in a thin cover that opens at the top. ‘(The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and track list.
