The Spiritans are a Houston, Texas Catholic folk group with an appealing style similar to the best artists on labels like FEL, World Library and NALR, This is after Catholic music’s early bland primitive stage, but before it all turned choral in the late ‘70s. Contains thirteen original songs, most having a moody melodic acoustic format led by gentle male vocal harmonies. A few like “His Holy Name’ have a slightly edgier ethereal sound courtesy of echoed electric guitar. Fine acoustic guitar work as well, sounding almost raga-like on the minor-key “A Holy Nation’. The title track and ‘Mary Come’ add in piano for a sound similar to Bob Hurd & Whitebird Nice hypnotic bongo backing on some of these songs. Member Jeff Keyes also has a later solo recording. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
