Wings Of The Morning (no label NR9188) 1977

Excellent dreamy melancholy acoustic custom from Bowling Green University pair David Schwan and Greg Zomes. Good mix of sincere moody acoustic ballads (‘Love The Children’, ‘Wings Of The Morning’) and upbeat folk-rock (‘Year Long Song’, ‘Praise His Name’), with emphasis on guitar and harmony, including some gorgeous angelic female backing vocals. ‘For Diane’ is perhaps the most beautiful track on the album — backed by surreal synths and a soaring electric lead, this song expresses the sorrow and future hope felt for a friend who had recently passed away. There are some periodic impressions here of the softer side of Kemper Crabb/Arkangel coupled with a spirit similar to the acclaimed 1982 album by Shekinah. Check out the brisk dual electric guitar solo enlivening ‘Whole Lot Of Healin’. See also the entry under Otis G. Johnson & David Schwan for two worthwhile non-1p Sparrow tracks. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
