In Concert/To Live Is Christ (Pinebrook PB 1599) 1980
Taylor University student who recorded this excellent live lp shortly after discovering he had cancer. Jim sings, plays lead guitar and wrote all the songs, while a few college friends help out on piano, guitar, drums and background vocals. Mostly an acoustic set with some full band tracks that sound like they were done in the studio. Gentle from-the-heart vocals and nice fragile melodies that stick with you. Side two is more electric, some nice soft rock, parts easy-flowing and jazzy, plus a couple good rockers with slide guitar. There’s a real sense of urgency here that emphasizes the need for living for what matters, driven home all the more by the fact that Wheeler died just a few weeks later. A very inspirational work. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.
