Amen: Songs For Now (Bethany 16084) 1968?
A diverse collection of folk tunes performed by Baptist singer Larry Trettin. Lots of songs, most being fairly short (under two minutes). Usually just Larry’s gentle tenor and acoustic guitar in a simple folk-singing style similar to Paul Quinlan’s Glory Bound, with some songs adding a female singer or two. Songs were selected from a collection of hymns, fun songs and worship resources called Chapbook 2, sample titles being ‘Garden Hymn’, ‘Vine And Figtree’, ‘Shalom Chaverim’, ‘King Of Kings’, ‘Help Us, 0 Lord, To Learn’ and ‘Doktor Eisenbart’ (I feel supremely deprived that ‘Doktor Eisenbart’ was never in any hymn book that I grew up with). Larry was interning at a coffee-house type ministry in State College, Pennsylvania at the time of this recording. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet. Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the track list.
