We’ve Got Something To Give You (Crusade LP 210-01) 1970?
Let it be known and documented that at one point in time/space history at Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri, there existed a folk group by the name of The 2 X 4’s. The group was named for having two girls and four boys, although by the time of this recording there were now eight members. On their custom record they perform in the familiar New Folk format of co-ed harmonies over acoustic guitar, banjo, upright bass and tambourine. Side one is the Christian stuff: ‘He’s Everything To Me’, ‘Seek And Ye Shall Find’, ‘The Savior Is Waiting’, etc. Side two contains covers of popular songs like ‘Jet Plane’, ‘You Were On My Mind’, ‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’ and ‘Greenback Dollar’ (don’t worry, it’s the “don’t give a hoot” version). Acceptable, but not much to distinguish them from the other million groups that did the same thing. Formed in 1968. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.Thank you Donald for the rear cover photo and the song list.
