Songs Of Praise (LP 629725) 1971?
Fascinating edge—folk/acoustic oddity with a wide range of moods. A collaborative project like Moment Of Truth featuring various tracks from five guys and two girls. From standard female-folk things like ‘Pass It On’ to raucous tambourine-shaking covers of ‘Come By Here My Lord’ (aka ‘Kum Ba Yah’) and ‘Blessed Assurance’ that sound like a crazed Hare Krishna on a street comer. Several high-quality male solo-with—guitar tracks like the lengthy ballad ‘Early In The Morning’ and ‘god Or God’ with the lyric “do you shoot your god through a filthy needle?” Good acoustic blues jamming on ‘With Jesus There’s No More Blues’. The lovely closing track ‘I Believe’ radiates the same fragile beauty as male/female groups like Eternal (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
I have not acquired this album yet.
