Let It Shine (Wealdon WS 116) 1972 UK *

Wyndrush - Let It Shine

Very obscure UK amateur private press from male acoustic trio of Mick Charles, Jon Jeffries and Chris Ryan. Quaint home-made atmosphere – a very fragile hushed austere mood, usually with just two acoustic guitars and a snare drum. There are some very pretty dreamy tracks like ‘I Miss You’, ‘Take Me Down’, ‘September’ and ‘Ballad Of A Londoner’ (the latter two both feature soft organ accompaniment that brings a subtle psych edge). Sixteen selections in total, mostly originals along with renditions of ‘They Say He’s Wonderful’, ‘It’s Me’, Paul Simon’s ‘A Church Is Burning’ (spoken over guitar) and Sydney Carter’s ‘Crow On The Cradle’. A couple live sing-alongs with kids. Attractive laminated ‘ cover art of a melting candle. Recorded in St. Mary’s Church, Lenham. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
