Sage - Going Strong

Hard-to-classify UK custom that mixes folk, rock, pop, and jazz. As with Fireworks and 2nd Chapter Of Acts the keyboards are the main instruments in defining the band’s sound. Piano lyrically accompanies acoustic guitar and lovely female vocals on several ballads. Elsewhere it enlivens the peppy numbers with boogie r&r frills. Synthesizers are used on occasion, like the more rock—oriented title track or the cover of Larry Norman’s ‘I Wish We’d All Been Ready’. The arrangements are uncluttered, the production is good, yet there’s still a pleasant amateurness present. Brings to mind some of those lps on the Canadian New Born label. (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
