Amplified Version - So Free

This Texas group had several albums ranging from cheap-o youth group horns-and—strings affairs to glossy easy listening indulgences on bigger labels. This custom, however, actually packs a consistently interesting gospelly rock sound with solid energetic organ throughout and even a few moments of garagy electric guitar. Vocals still have a degree of that MOR polish, especially on something like Stevie Wonder’s ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’. Middle of side 2 descends momentarily into some Gaithery AC before ending with a goof-ball country tearjerker cover of ‘Why Me Lord’, complete with an obviously ungifted vocalist on the verge of bursting into laughter (which he eventually does). (The Archivist, 4th edition by Ken Scott).
